George Brant’s Into the Breeches! comes to Chautauqua Theater Company for Limited Engagement

Performances August 11–17

CHAUTAUQUA, N.Y. — Chautauqua Theater Company under the leadership of Artistic Director Andrew Borba and Managing Director Sarah Clare Corporandy, is proud to bring award-winning playwright George Brant’s uplifting comedy Into the Breeches! to CTC. Directed by Laura Kepley, Artistic Director of the Cleveland Play House, Into the Breeches! plays from August 11th-17th on the Bratton Stage at the Chautauqua Institution. Tickets are $35-40.

A Fringe First and Smith Prize Award Winner, George Brant premiered Into the Breeches! at Trinity Repertory Company and it was declared “a breath of fresh air that will leave one smiling” by BroadwayWorld and “one of the sweetest nights of theater” by Providence Journal. CTC is thrilled to connect with its history as the summer home of the Cleveland Play House by working with two of CPH’s lead artists.

As the men are off fighting in World War II, Into the Breeches! follows the women of the Buffalo Oberon Playhouse who attempt to keep the lights of the theater on by producing Shakespeare with an all female cast. This hilarious and moving backstage comedy explores how theater can bring a community together in hard times and perhaps even expand our idea of what community is.

Into the Breeches! guest artists include thirteen-year Chautauqua favorite, Carol Halstead (Broadway-The Best Man, Off-Broadway-The Duchess of Malfi, Red Bull) as well as Peggy Roeder (New York-Ciderhouse Rules, Atlantic Theatre Company), Brian Sills (National Tour-The Lion King), Nisi Sturgis (Broadway-The 39 Steps), Jeff Talbot (Broadway-Sly Fox, Fortune’s Fool). Conservatory Members include Jenny Latimer (UNC), Janet Fiki (UCSD), and Jennifer Holcombe (UC Irvine).

Scenic design by Robert Mark Morgan, costume design by Angela Calin, lighting design by Masha Tsimring and sound design by Rob Kaplowitz.
