In addition to his work for CNN\, Gupta is an associate professor of neurosurgery at Emory University Hospital and associate chief of neurosurgery at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. He serves as a diplomate of the American Board of Neurosurgery. And in 2019\, Gupta was elected to the National Academy of Medicine\, considered one of the highest honors in the medical field.  \nGupta is the author of several books. In his latest book\, It Doesn’t Have to Hurt: Your Smart Guide to a Pain-Free Life\, he provides expert-guidance and science-based strategies for alleviating physical\, social and emotional chronic pain. World War C: Lessons from the Covid-19 Pandemic and How to Prepare for the Next One was called the “must-read book about COVID-19.” His previous publication\, Keep Sharp: Build a Better Brain at Any Age\, was an instant best-seller and was developed as a guided program titled “12 Weeks to a Sharper You.”  \nGupta received his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Michigan Medical School.
