SUMMARY:Rainn Wilson
DESCRIPTION:Drawing on his experience as a cultural commentator and advocate for spiritual renewal\, Rainn Wilson closes Chautauqua’s Week Four theme “Wasted: Our Era of Disposability” in conversation\, weaving humor with a sense of moral urgency to discuss how disposability affects not only our environment but also erodes our sense of meaning\, relationships and community. \nWilson is an Emmy-nominated and SAG Award-winning actor best known for playing Dwight Schrute on NBC’s “The Office.” A longtime environmental activist\, Wilson co-founded Climate Basecamp in 2022. With the organization\, he has been working on climate communications and serves as a member on the advisory board. \nOn his podcast\, “Soul Boom\,” Wilson hosts a series of intimate conversations with some of the most brilliant and heart-felt artists\, thinkers and doers to bring the listener toward transformation on both a personal and spiritual level. In 2009\, he founded the digital media company Soul Pancake. He is the author of four books including The Bassoon King\, SoulPancake: Chew on Life’s Big Questions\, Soul Boom: Why We Need a Spiritual Revolution\, and Soul Boom Workbook: Spiritual Tools for Modern Living. \nWilson is also known for “Lessons in Chemistry”; the unscripted travel series “Rainn Wilson and the Geography of Bliss”; “Jerry & Marge Go Large”; “Utopia”; Roger Michell’s “Blackbird”; “The Meg”; “Star Trek: Discovery”; “Hesher”; “Super”; “Cooties”; “Juno”; “Galaxy Quest”; and “Almost Famous.” He has an MFA from New York University. On Broadway\, Wilson was in The Tempest” and the Tony nominated “London Assurance.” He performed “Thom Pain (Based on Nothing)” at The Geffen and was the lead role in the political farce “The Doppelganger” at Steppenwolf Theater. \nLater that afternoon\, Wilson will host a Masters Series workshop engaging the Chautauqua community with his journal-style Soul Boom Workbook: Spiritual Tools for Modern Living — based on his New York Times bestselling book and hit podcast Soul Boom: Why We Need a Spiritual Revolution.

SUMMARY:Mary Alice Monroe
DESCRIPTION:Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Circle — Where the Rivers Merge: A Novel by Mary Alice Monroe \nFrom the New York Times bestselling author\, the first of two epic and triumphant novels celebrating one intrepid woman’s life across multiple generations in the American South. \n1908: The Lowcountry of South Carolina is at the cusp of change. Mayfield\, the grand estate held for generations by the Rivers family\, is the treasured home of young Eliza. A free spirit\, she refuses to be confined by societal norms and spends her days exploring the vast property\, observing wildlife\, and riding horses. But the Great War\, coastal storms\, and family turmoil bring unexpected challenges to Eliza\, putting her on a collision course with the patriarchal traditions of a bygone era. \n1988: At 88\, Eliza is the scion of the Rivers/DeLancey family. She’s fought a lifetime to save her beloved Mayfield and is too independent and committed to quietly retire and leave the fate of the estate to her greedy son. She must make decisions that will assure the future of the land and her family—or watch them both be split apart. \nSet against the evocative landscape of the twentieth-century Lowcountry\, Where the Rivers Merge is a dramatic and sweeping multigenerational family story of unyielding love\, lessons learned\, profound sacrifices\, and the indomitable spirit of a woman determined to persevere in the face of change in order to protect her family legacy and the land she loves. \nBased in Charleston\, South Carolina\, is the New York Times best-selling author of thirty books–and counting\, Mary Alice Monroe. Richly layered and rooted to place her Lowcountry-set novels defy literary labels. More than feel-good escapism or traditional beach reads\, her engrossing stories deftly explore the intersections and parallels between Mother Nature and human nature\, hooking readers emotionally and introducing them to characters and causes that live in their hearts and minds. Her robust library of work–from the popular Beach House series to her compelling fiction\, to her newer middle grade series\, The Islanders–engages readers across generational lines\, inspiring them to take a harder look at the environment–and our impact on it. To ask the important questions. To seek answers. To create connections–both with nature and in our personal lives.

Known for an immaculately crafted but endlessly surprising sound that transcends the boundaries of roots\, country\, rock & roll\, and pop\, Alison Krauss & Union Station released their highly anticipated new album\, Arcadia\, in 2025.
