SUMMARY:Chautauqua Opera Conservatory with the Music School Festival Orchestra "L’Enfant Prodigue & Les Mamelles de Tiresias"
DESCRIPTION:Music by: Claude Debussy & Francis Poulenc\nLibrettist: Édouard Guinand & Guillaume Apollinaire\nStage Director: Emma Griffin\nConductor: Timothy Muffitt \nTwo masters of French music share the stage in a sparkling double bill. Francis Poulenc’s Les Mamelles de Tirésias (1945) bursts with surreal satire\, flipping gender norms topsy-turvy in a wildly imaginative romp of music and mischief. It’s paired with Claude Debussy’s luminous early masterpiece L’enfant prodigue (1884)\, a one-act cantata suffused with longing\, redemption\, and sumptuous lyricism. Together\, these works deliver an evening of operatic drama and delight. \nThe Chautauqua Opera Conservatory is a premier\, immersive summer program offering the highest caliber of training for young singers ages 18 and older. Under the leadership of Director Jonathan Beyer\, participants join a select community of singers who study\, coach\, and perform in the inspiring and idyllic setting of the Chautauqua Institution in western New York State.   \nOur program combines rigorous artistic preparation with a warm\, encouraging environment that puts each singer’s growth and well-being first. Voice lessons\, role study\, vocal coachings\, and masterclasses are led by a distinguished full-time faculty of voice teachers\, coaches\, and stage directors\, alongside renowned guest artists from the world’s leading opera houses and conservatories. Students explore and perform repertoire spanning Opera\, Art Song\, Oratorio\, Chamber Music\, and Crossover styles. \nComprised of top-tier students from conservatories and universities in the U.S. and abroad\, Music School Festival Orchestra members participate in a variety of musical activities during their summers at Chautauqua including chamber music and private lessons along with their meticulous orchestral training. Alumni from the MSFO can be heard in many of the world’s top orchestras and chamber ensembles and can be found on music faculties worldwide. The MSFO is led by Artistic Director Timothy Muffitt\, who serves as Music Director of the Lansing Symphony Orchestra and Music Director Laureate of the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra.
