SUMMARY:CHQ Mystic Heart: Venerable Jissai Prince-Cherry
DESCRIPTION:Venerable Jissai Prince-Cherry began practicing Zen in 1994. Since then\, she has maintained a daily personal practice and regularly participates in group sittings\, intensive Zen meditation retreats\, and periods of residential training including at a Zen monastery in Japan. She works closely with her teacher\, Roshi Bodhin Kjolhede\, successor to Roshi Philip Kapleau\, the founder of the Rochester Zen Center. With her teacher’s on-going guidance and support\, Jissai began instructing others in Zen meditation in 1999. In 2022\, she was ordained as a Zen Buddhist priest and received the name “Jissai” (pronounced JEE-sigh) which means “true encounter.” Jissai is delighted to serve both the Rochester Zen Center and the Louisville Zen Center.

DESCRIPTION:Kimberley Strassel is a member of the editorial board for The Wall Street Journal\, where she writes editorials\, as well as the weekly “Potomac Watch” political column. She joins the Chautauqua Lecture Series to discuss “Themes of Transformation” with regard to the evolution and future of conservatism as one of the most potent forces shaping American and global politics. \nStrassel joined Dow Jones & Co. in 1994\, working in the news department of The Wall Street Journal Europe in Brussels\, and then in London. She moved to New York in 1999 and soon thereafter joined the Journal’s editorial page\, working as a features editor\, and then as an editorial writer. She assumed her current position in 2005. A 2014 Bradley Prize recipient\, Strassel is also a Fox News contributor. She is the author of the The Biden Malaise: How America Bounces Back from Joe Biden’s Dismal Repeat of the Jimmy Carter Years\, as well as two prior New York Times bestsellers: The Intimidation Game and Resistance (At All Costs). \nAn Oregon native\, Strassel earned a bachelor’s degree from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs of Princeton University.

He is the founder of Sojourners\, and is the author of 12 books\, including America’s Original Sin: Racism\, White Privilege and the Bridge to America; God’s Politics: Why the Right Gets It Wrong and the Left Doesn’t Get it; The Great Awakening; The Call to Conversion; and Christ in Crisis: Reclaiming Jesus in a Time of Fear\, Hate\, and Violence; and host of the popular podcast The Soul of the Nation. His latest book is the New York Times bestseller The False White Gospel: Rejecting Christian Nationalism\, Reclaiming True Faith\, and Refounding Democracy.  \nHe served on President Obama’s White House Advisory Council on Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships and has taught faith and public life courses at Harvard and Georgetown University.
