She has been seen and heard on Broadway as Marie in the Tony-nominated The Most Happy Fella\, and regionally as Lady Thiang in The King and I\, Bloody Mary in South Pacific\, Ida Strauss in Titanic\, and with Zero Mostel in Fiddler on the Roof\, as well as in over 22 roles at the Metropolitan Opera\, including premieres of Francesca da Rimini and Le Rossignol (where she danced as partner to the great Natalia Makarova)\, under the baton of her mentor James Levine. She is featured on DVD Live from the Met performances of Il Trittico\, The Trojans\, and Francesca da Rimini. Ms. Catania teaches both classical voice and musical theater at the Westminster College of the Arts\, Mannes College of Music\, and Hunter College\, and in the summers in Italy for Wichita State University\, and in the Chautauqua Opera Conservatory in Chautauqua\, NY. Ms. Catania holds degrees from Temple University and the Boston Graduate School of Psychoanalysis\, in addition to Manhattan School of Music\, and pursued postgraduate study at the Curtis Institute of Music.

DESCRIPTION:CVA Lecture Series: School of Art Faculty\nSusanna Coffey: “The First Step” \nA respected figurative painter\, Coffey’s work in self-portraiture\, landscape\, still life and illustration of classical literature is based in an intense observation of her motif or text. She is an artist known for her ability to create beautifully wrought and expressive imagery from subject matter often deemed ordinary or mundane. \nCoffey’s work is included in the collections of The Art institute of Chicago\, The National Portrait Gallery\, National Academy of Design\, The Hood Museum\, The Honolulu Museum of Art\, Minneapolis Museum of Art\, The Weatherspoon Art Museum\, the Yale University Art Gallery\, the High Museum of Art and others. This year she was one of the recipients of the “Artist x Artist Award” given by the Hirschhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden. Other awards include the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship\, the National Endowment for the Arts Award\, and the Louis Comfort Tiffany Award. Her many one-person exhibitions have been written about in The New York Times\, Art in America\, Art News\, the New Yorker\, Hyperallergic\, and other publications. Several books and monographs have included\, or featured\, her work. She received honorary degrees from the Pennsylvania College of the Arts and the Lyme Academy of Art.  \nSusanna Coffey received her BFA magna cum laude from the University of Connecticut at Storrs and graduated with an MFA from the Yale School of Art. She was a Visiting Professor of Painting in Columbia University’s School of Visual Art from 2013 until 2023. In 2018 she retired as the F.H. Sellers Professor in Painting at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

SUMMARY:African American Heritage House Lecture: Julia Robinson Moore
DESCRIPTION:Julia Robinson Moore is an associate professor of African American Religion in the Department of Religious Studies and an affiliate faculty member in the Department of Africana Studies & History at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She is also the principal director of the Preserving Sacred Spaces Initiative at UNC Charlotte\, which conducts architectural\, genealogical and historical research for the memorialization of slave cemeteries throughout Mecklenburg County\, North Carolina.   \nHer first book\, Race\, Religion\, and the Pulpit: The Life of Reverend Robert L. Bradby and the Making of Urban Detroit\, was published in 2015 and republished in paperback in 2024. She is presently working on a second book project that investigates the complexities of black and white race relations in the New South through the sacred context of the Presbyterian Church.   \nTrained as a historian\, Moore earned her Ph.D. from Michigan State University\, and is an ordained Presbyterian minister in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A) and Minister-At-Large within the Presbytery of Charlotte.

SUMMARY:Barry W. Lynn
DESCRIPTION:The Rev. Barry W. Lynn served as executive director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State from 1992 – 2018.  An attorney\, minister\, and long-time activist in the civil liberties field\, Lynn came to Americans United with an impressive background in church-state issues. \nBefore accepting the post at Americans United\, Lynn held a variety of positions related to religious liberty. From 1984 to 1991 he was legislative counsel for the Washington lobbying office of the American Civil Liberties Union\, where he frequently worked on church-state issues. From 1974 to 1980 Lynn served in a variety of positions with the national offices of the United Church of Christ\, including a two-year stint as legislative counsel for the Church’s Office of Church in Society in Washington\, D.C. \nA member of the Washington\, D.C. and Supreme Court bar\, Lynn earned his law degree from Georgetown University Law Center in 1978. In addition\, he is an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ who received his theology degree from Boston University School of Theology in 1973. Lynn earned his bachelor’s degree at Dickinson College\, Carlisle\, Pennsylvania\, in 1970. Lynn is the author of Piety and Politics: The Right-Wing Assault on Religious Freedom and God and Government as well as being co-author of First Freedom First with C. Welton Gaddy.  He has also written the autobiographical trilogy Paid to Piss People Off and is a sought-after speaker.
