The extraordinary Alexander Gavrylyuk serves as Artist in Residence for Chautauqua Institution. His international career has included appearances with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall with the BBC Scottish Symphony, and the Hollywood Bowl. Following what was hailed as an “electrifying performance” broadcast at the 2017 Proms in Royal Albert Hall with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Limelight magazine said “It is refreshing to experience completely new interpretations of traditional masterpieces by a monumental master of the piano who is, also, modest (and not falsely so), who is unassuming and completely dedicated to his art.”

Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra: Korngold and Dvorak

Multiple Grammy Award-winning conductor and Music Director of the Buffalo Philharmonic JoAnn Falletta joins the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra for a luminous evening. Recently named one of the “Fifty Great Conductors,” past and present, by Gramophone Magazine, Falletta is also widely celebrated as the first woman to lead a major American orchestra. Her program with the CSO features the “refined and impassioned” (ArtsAtlanta) Canadian violinist Blake Pouliot in Erich Korngold’s cinematically virtuosic violin concerto. The concert closes with Dvorak’s radiant Symphony No. 6, a masterpiece of sweeping melodies and lively folk rhythms.

This monumental work, one of Mahler’s most emotionally charged compositions, is a masterful journey from darkness to transcendent light and hope. Of the culminating moments Mahler wrote: “A feeling of overwhelming love fills us with blissful knowledge and illuminates our existence.”

Grammy and Emmy-winning ensemble Time For Three returns to the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra for an electrifying evening of genre-defying music. Known for their unique blend of classical, jazz, and pop, this trio pushes the boundaries of traditional performance. Their high-energy style and incredible musicianship create an exhilarating experience that captivates audiences. Consisting of Charles Yang (violin, vocals), Nicolas “Nick” Kendall (violin, vocals), and Ranaan Meyer (double bass, vocals), their instruments and voices combine in a remarkable sound, establishing a distinct voice of expression that resonates with listeners worldwide.

One hundred years ago, composer George Gershwin, fresh off the successful premiere of Rhapsody in Blue, holed up in a practice cabin at Chautauqua Institution to work furiously on what became his Concerto in F. This summer, pianist Aaron Diehl joins Rossen Milanov and the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra to commemorate the hundredth anniversary of the concerto’s premiere. Come hear a piece of Chautauqua’s history performed by a celebrated pianist who is redefining the lines between jazz and classical today.
