Chautauqua Institution Media Statement – August 16, 2022
Senior Vice President/Chief Brand Officer
CHAUTAUQUA, N.Y. — Chautauqua Institution expresses appreciation to the media organizations who are reaching out currently. We greatly appreciate receiving your requests and are keeping Mr. Rushdie and Mr. Reese in our prayers as they recover from their serious injuries.
At this time, our community has entered an important healing phase and is focused on our collective path forward as an organization and as a sacred place that seeks to foster the very best in humanity, independent thinking, and free expression – virtues that Mr. Rushdie and Mr. Reese very much champion and stand for. Our programming and events schedule has now resumed, with this week’s theme aptly titled “New Profiles in Courage.”
As has been communicated by New York State Police Superintendent Kevin P. Bruen, there will be a substantially increased law enforcement presence throughout the Institution. In addition, there will be extensive security protocols activated, many of which will not be noticeable to visitors and residents. The Institution is working with our professional security consultants and multiple law enforcement agencies on additional security enhancements and risk management considerations.
We look forward to the final weeks of our season and a continuation of the love, learning, enrichment, and betterment of society that the Chautauqua Institution has and always will embody.
Should Chautauqua Institution have any further comments, our communications office will follow-up separately.
