Chautauqua Announces $36 Million in Transformational 2023 Philanthropy
Chautauqua Institution is proud to announce that 2023 philanthropic activity totaled more than $36 million. This amount reflects a combination of outright and planned gifts and pledges to Chautauqua Institution and the Chautauqua Foundation. Of the total amount raised, $5.9 million was contributed to the Chautauqua Fund, the Institution’s annual giving program, through one-time and multi-year commitments. Furthermore, the Chautauqua Fund exceeded the Institution’s budgeted goal for 2023. These contributions are a significant component of the $106 million raised to date for Boundless, A Campaign for Chautauqua.
“More than 2,800 unique donors contributed to this groundbreaking success, illustrating once again what I’ve always known to be true: the spirit of Chautauqua is one of generosity,” said Senior Vice President & Chief Advancement Officer Geof Follansbee. “In the adoption of the 150 Forward Strategic Plan, the Institution committed to investing in our fundraising program as a means of securing the Institution’s long-term financial sustainability. With the cooperation of our committed donors, dedicated volunteers, and knowledgeable staff, that investment is paying dividends of which we can all be proud. On behalf of the Institution, I offer my deepest gratitude to everyone who contributed to the $36 million we raised last year. Every gift indeed does matter, and this success belongs to all of us. The gifts made in 2023 touch every part of the Chautauqua experience, from hallmark programs like the Chautauqua Lecture Series and popular entertainment, to upkeep of our historic grounds and conservation of Chautauqua Lake. A large portion of the total commitment is unrestricted, allowing the Institution flexibility to meet its core expenses and unanticipated needs as they arise, and to elevate the experience uniformly.
