These instructions are for upgrading to the Explore More & Sustain membership level on your computer or laptop, not on any handheld devices.  Please note that joining as a new member or making any changes on an Apple device through the YouTube app is subject to additional fees. We recommend using a computer or laptop to manage your membership. 

Step 1: Go to Chautauqua’s YouTube Channel 

On your computer, open your internet browser (such as Chrome, Safari, Edge or Firefox). 

In the address bar at the top of the screen, type: 

www.youtube.com/chautauquainstitution 

Press Enter on your keyboard. 

Step 2: Make Sure You’re Using the Correct YouTube Account 

Your membership is connected to the specific YouTube account you used when you signed up. 

If you only see a Join or Renew button and do not see your current membership information, you may be signed into the wrong account. 

To check: 

1. Click your profile picture in the upper-right corner of the screen. 
2. A menu will appear showing the account you are currently using. 
3. If needed, click Switch Account and select another account. 
4. You can also click Purchases and Memberships to see any active YouTube memberships tied to that account. 

Step 3: Click “Membership” on the horizontal menu  

Once you are on the Chautauqua Institution – YouTube page, look for the horizontal menu below the header and the green circle with CHQ and click Membership. 

You will see information about your current membership shown on the left and the option to upgrade on the right. 

Step 4: Change Your Membership Level 

To the right of the information about your membership, you can click Upgrade or click on the three dots (⋮) next to your membership and select Change Level. 

A new window will open showing the available membership options. 

Step 5: Choose the Membership That’s Right for You 

To watch any programs after they are streamed this season, you must have the Explore More & Sustain membership level. This will give you access to: 

✅ Livestreams during the Summer Season 
✅ On-demand viewing during the Summer Season 
✅ The full Chautauqua video archive 

If you wish to have one of the lower levels, permissions to watch members-only videos are restricted according to the tier. Only membership levels different from your current level will be available to choose. 

Step 6: Confirm Your Selection 

Click Change Level and follow the instructions provided by YouTube to complete your purchase. 

What Happens Next? 

If you are upgrading: 
Your new access will begin immediately after YouTube processes your payment. 

If you are downgrading: 
Your current benefits will continue until the end of your billing cycle. The new membership level will begin after that date.
