As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance the patron experience and support the long-term financial sustainability of popular entertainment events in the Amphitheater, we are piloting a new approach to services and amenities within the Amphitheater during post-season events in September. 

The Chautauqua Amphitheater experience — especially for popular entertainment — remains unique in the industry. To remain competitive and responsive to evolving guest expectations, we will begin offering concessions during two evening events in September, with operations led by the Chautauqua Hotel Company (Athenaeum Hotel) and sales occurring in Odland Plaza (a perimeter will be set up requiring a show ticket to enter). This follows other successful food and beverage pilots, such as the Chautauqua Food Festival, Pop-Ups on Bestor, and recent artistic residencies. 

We plan to thoughtfully balance our commitment to tradition with guest experience expectations. Beer, wine and soft drinks will be available during the September 3 and September 5 performances and served in branded, covered cups to reduce spills and respect the performance environment. Food will also be available for purchase and may be enjoyed outside the Amphitheater. Alcohol will not be permitted outside of the perimeter that will be set up around Odland Plaza. 

Security enhancements will help create a safe, family-friendly atmosphere. Temporary infrastructure will be used during this pilot phase while assessing the long-term viability of this initiative. Any permanent changes will be shared with the community in advance for review and input. 

Hard liquor will not be served as part of this pilot. 

Our goal is to steward Chautauqua’s cherished values while adapting to contemporary expectations. By aligning with industry standards, we hope to attract new visitors and better serve our loyal patrons for generations to come. Your feedback will be vital in shaping this pilot, and we invite you to share your thoughts throughout the 2025 Summer Assembly and beyond. Specific meetings will be hosted starting in July.
