About Ellen

Ellen Cross is the donor relations coordinator in the Office of Advancement, where she plays a key role in executing a top-tier donor relations program designed to engage, steward, and recognize donors. A proud native of Western New York, Ellen holds a degree in Communications from the University at Buffalo (UB), with minors in Business Management and Philosophy.

Ellen has a diverse background in arts and events management, brand marketing, and promotional writing. Prior to her current role, she served as the concert manager’s assistant for UB’s Music Department and also worked as a Red Bull Energy Drink student marketeer. Most recently, she gained valuable experience here on grounds as the donor relations intern for the summer of 2024.

With a passion for relationship-building and a sharp attention to detail, Ellen brings creativity, strategy, and dedication to her work — helping to strengthen and sustain meaningful connections between donors and the Institution.

Why did you choose to work at Chautauqua? What do you like about working at Chautauqua?

Chautauqua has always been a huge part of my life. I have spent a lot of time on the grounds between attending the Chautauqua jazz and band camps throughout school, the Young Writers Institute, participating in many Old First Night (OFN) 5Ks, and working at the Golf Course across the street. I still enjoy playing in the Community Band, which performs on July 4 and OFN. Working here has always been a dream of mine as I truly believe in lifelong learning and supporting the arts.

Personal Interests      

In my free time, I love to read (anything from Nietzsche to Austen) and stay active by skiing, hiking and yoga. I also love traveling and like to help people plan their international trips!
