Young Playwrights Project

This three-phase project brings actors and teaching artists to schools to teach the art of playwriting. This program encourages students to use their imagination and tell their unique stories, centering their creative expression as they develop writing and theatrical arts skills. Students will write plays, hear their plays read and acted out, and see selected plays performed live at Chautauqua Institution.

This program is presented in collaboration with classroom teachers to combine the best of in-person experiences and asynchronous digital resources, encouraging teachers to adapt as needed to best serve the needs of their unique students.

This video shares the journey of one student at Ring Elementary School in Jamestown, NY. Join her and her class as they experience the magic of the Young Playwrights Project.

Chautauqua Arts Education is proud to share that the following schools will be served with this program during the 2024-25 school year:

  • Chautauqua Lake Elementary School in Mayville, NY
  • Clymer Elementary School in Clymer, NY
  • Hewes BOCES Educational Center
  • Bush, Fletcher, Lincoln, Love, and Ring Elementary Schools in the Jamestown Public Schools
  • Panama Elementary School in Panama, NY*
