Theater Conservatory
Chautauqua Theater Company is committed to developing the next generation of theater artists. The heart of CTC’s educational programming is the Conservatory. We bring together top emerging theater artists from around the country for hands-on training and work experience helping to bridge the gap between artist training and professional careers.
Acting Conservatory members play leading roles in mainstage productions and the New Play Workshop series. Design Fellows assist designers on mainstage productions and take leading design roles in other opportunities such as the Drama League new plays. Directing Fellows assist directors on mainstage productions and the New Play Workshops and take a leading role in community engagement initiatives and talkbacks. Playwriting Fellows are in residence for five weeks, developing their own new play through a two-week workshop that culminates in a public presentation during the FutureNow Festival.
All conservatory members receive a full scholarship including housing and a stipend. Conservatory alumni currently work across the country from Broadway to regional theater houses and CTC frequently welcomes back Conservatory alumni as guest artists on our mainstage.

Acting Conservatory
The acting conservatory began over 40 years ago alongside CHQ’s first resident theater company. Founded by Michael Kahn, grown by Rebecca Guy and now under the leadership of Producing Artistic Director Jade King Carroll, the acting conservatory has emerged as the premiere summer training ensemble in the country.

FutureNow Fellowships
The FutureNow Stage Directing Fellowships, a new partnership with The Drama League, allow early and mid-career stage directors and playwrights to practice their craft and explore different paths in the evolving landscape of the American Theater.

Design Fellowships
The Design Fellowship program provides a valuable opportunity for early career designers to work side by side with experienced professionals and with future colleagues (emerging actors, directors, playwrights and fellow designers).
