General Statement
Our goal is to make your purchasing experience easy, efficient, and equitable — so you can focus on enjoying your Chautauqua experience.
Please read these terms carefully before using Chautauqua Institution’s ticket purchasing services or making any ticket or pass purchase through the Chautauqua Institution Ticket Office or tickets.chq.org (individually and collectively, the “Services”). By using the Services, you, on your own behalf and on behalf of any accompanying minor or other accompanying party for whom you have purchased a ticket or pass, agree to be bound by the Chautauqua Institution Terms of Service (the “Terms”) presented below.
Chautauqua Institution reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to add to, modify or remove any of these Terms at any time. It is your responsibility to check the Terms periodically for changes. Your continued use of the Services following the posting of any changes constitutes your acceptance of those changes. If any change to these Terms is not acceptable to you, your sole remedy is to cease using the Services.

A valid gate pass or event ticket (the “Pass”) is required to enter and exit the Chautauqua Institution grounds. You must present the Pass for scanning on each entrance to and exit from the grounds and for access to some venues, such as the Amphitheater, Bratton Theater and Norton Hall.
This Pass is a revocable license. Purchasing and/or using this Pass constitutes your agreement to be bound by the Chautauqua Institution Ticketing Terms of Service (the “Terms”) and all rules, regulations, and policies of Chautauqua Institution, including, but not limited to, those related to photography, videography, security, parking, and health and safety protocols, all of which can be found at policies.chq.org.
Chautauqua Institution may revoke this Pass, refuse admission to you, and/or eject you, without the refund of any portion of the Pass purchase price, upon your violation of the Terms or any other policy or rule referred to herein or located on the Chautauqua Institution website at policies.chq.org, and for any other action taken by you in violation of any federal, state, or local law, or that may endanger other persons or property.
In addition, Chautauqua Institution reserves the right, without the refund of any portion of the Pass purchase price, to refuse admission or to eject any person whose conduct is deemed by Chautauqua Institution to be unsafe or disorderly, who causes a disturbance prohibiting attendees at the event from enjoying the event, who appears to be or is intoxicated, who uses derogatory, vulgar or abusive language, who fails to comply with the venue’s policies, or who fails to comply with security personnel or any security measures.
This Pass and its use are governed by the laws of the State of New York including Sections 170.05 and 190.25 of the Penal Law relative to forgery and criminal impersonation. Resale or attempted resale of this Pass in violation of applicable laws is grounds for seizure or cancellation without refund or other compensation. Except as specifically authorized by Chautauqua Institution, it is unlawful to copy or otherwise reproduce this Pass.
By purchasing or using this Pass, you grant permission to Chautauqua Institution, or its affiliates, to utilize, use, reproduce, modify, display, and publish your image, likeness, actions and statements in any live or recorded audio, video, or photographic display or other transmission, exhibition, publication or reproduction made on Chautauqua Institution or Chautauqua Hotel Company property in any context or media now or hereafter existing for any purpose, including commercial or promotional purposes, without further authorization or compensation.
Entry and seating will be subject to New York State guidelines and restrictions in place at the time of your visit. Before you arrive, please visit our website, chq.org, for information about health and safety protocols , parking, dining, shopping, programs and other activities covered by this Pass.
By entering a venue, you consent to the venue’s safety and security measures in place for the particular event. If you refuse to comply with such safety and security measures, you may be denied entry to the venue without refund or other compensation.
YOU VOLUNTARILY ASSUME ALL RISK AND DANGER OF PERSONAL INJURY (INCLUDING SICKNESS AND DEATH), PROPERTY DAMAGE, AND ALL OTHER HAZARDS ARISING FROM, OR RELATED IN ANY WAY TO, YOUR USE OF THIS PASS TO ACCESS THE CHAUTAUQUA INSTITUTION GROUNDS OR ANY EVENT HELD ON OR WITHIN CHAUTAUQUA INSTITUTION OR CHAUTAUQUA HOTEL COMPANY PROPERTY, WHETHER BY NEGLIGENCE OR OTHERWISE. THE HOLDER AGREES THAT CHAUTAUQUA INSTITUTION AND ITS AFFILIATES ARE NOT LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES OR INJURIES RESULTING FROM SUCH CAUSES.
YOU SPECIFICALLY ACKNOWLEDGE THAT SOME HIGHLY CONTAGIOUS DISEASES ARE TRANSMITTED THROUGH HUMAN CONTACT AND/OR RESPIRATORY DROPLETS (INCLUDING THROUGH THE AIR AND VIA COMMON SURFACES), AND IT IS POSSIBLE THAT YOU MAY CONTRACT AN AIRBORNE OR OTHER CONTAGIOUS DISEASE WHILE AT ANY EVENT OR PROGRAM FOR WHICH THIS PASS IS ISSUED.
Unauthorized Purchases
Chautauqua Institution is the only authorized seller of Passes for events held on the grounds of Chautauqua Institution. Passes to events at Chautauqua Institution, including single tickets to events in the Chautauqua Amphitheater, must be purchased through the Chautauqua Institution Ticket Office or tickets.chq.org.
Ticket brokers and other third-party ticket sellers or resellers are not recognized ticketing agents of Chautauqua Institution. If you purchase from one of these unauthorized sources, you risk purchasing an invalid, lost, stolen or counterfeit Pass that is not valid for admittance into Chautauqua Institution for the event in question.
Only valid Passes will scan to authorize entry into gates and venues for an event. Invalid, lost, stolen or counterfeit Passes are void and thus will not be valid for entry into the gate or venue for the event in question. Anyone who purchases tickets from a ticket broker or other third-party seller or reseller does so at their own risk. Chautauqua Institution is not responsible for any aspect of third-party ticket sellers or resellers or third-party websites, including purchases made on those sites. We strongly urge you to purchase tickets through the Chautauqua Institution Ticket Office or tickets.chq.org.
Chautauqua Institution may occasionally offer tickets for sale on a third-party platform for artist pre-sales. Should you have any reason to question the validity of a ticketing source, please contact the Chautauqua Institution Ticket Office before completing your purchase.
Ticket Limit
You may be limited to a certain number of tickets or Passes for each event. This policy is intended to discourage other purchasers from engaging in unfair trade practices. If Chautauqua Institution, in its sole discretion, determines that you are purchasing more than the pre-determined number of Passes for an event or engaging in practices it deems to be unfair, Chautauqua Institution will terminate your account and cancel your Pass purchase without prior notice to you.
Order Confirmation and Billing Information Verification
If you do not receive an email confirmation of your purchase after submitting payment information, or if you experience an error message or service interruption after submitting payment information, it is your responsibility to confirm with Chautauqua Institution whether or not your order has been placed by contacting Chautauqua Institution customer support at ticketoffice@chq.org. Orders are not considered finalized until verified in writing by our Ticket Office or via automatic receipt generated from our computerized ticketing system.
Pass Refund Policies
Pass refunds are issued in accordance with the Ticketing Fees & Refund Policy, a copy of which may be found at policies.chq.org and which is hereby incorporated by reference into these Terms.
For all Pass types, Chautauqua Institution cannot issue refunds for a Pass obtained from an unauthorized third-party ticket seller or reseller; in those cases, refunds must be obtained from the party from whom you purchased your Pass.
Event Modification or Cancellation
All events are subject to modification or cancellation without notice. If an event is cancelled or rescheduled, Pass refunds or exchanges will be issued in accordance with the Ticketing Fees & Refund Policy.
All events at Chautauqua Institution are rain or shine and refunds shall not be issued in case of inclement weather with the exception of complete cancellation of an event. Chautauqua Institution continuously monitors weather reports, and if conditions indicate the performance or event may be unsafe due to rain, lightning, wind, or other unsafe condition, Chautauqua Institution may elect to cancel the event (in cases where inclement weather conditions are not expected to improve) or delay/postpone the event (in cases where weather conditions are temporary). Evaluation of weather conditions is made at the site of the venue, despite inclement weather that may exist in other parts of the surrounding area.
Opening acts or attractions sometimes tour with headlining performers for certain concerts or shows. Chautauqua Institution is not always informed of the identity or nature of any such opening acts or attractions. Opening acts or attractions for a particular event may be added, changed or cancelled at any time without notice and the purchaser of this Pass will not be entitled to any refund or other reimbursement in connection with any such addition, change or cancellation.

Chautauqua Institution may own the Site Content or portions of the Site Content may be made available to Chautauqua Institution through arrangements with third parties. Except as expressly authorized by Chautauqua Institution in writing, you agree not to sell, license, rent, modify, distribute, copy, reproduce, transmit, publicly display, publicly perform, publish, adapt, edit or create derivative works of any Site Content, or post any Site Content on any other web site or in a networked computer environment for any purpose. Reproducing, copying or distributing any Site Content for any purpose is strictly prohibited without the express prior written permission of Chautauqua Institution. You shall use the Site Content only for purposes that are permitted by these Terms and any applicable laws and regulations (foreign and domestic). Privacy
All information provided by you or collected by Chautauqua Institution in connection with the Services is governed by Chautauqua Institution’s Privacy Policy, a copy of which is located at chq.org/privacy-policy and which is hereby incorporated by reference into these Terms. Chautauqua Institution strongly recommends that you review the Privacy Policy closely. Chautauqua Institution will take all steps reasonably necessary to ensure that your data is treated securely and in accordance with the Privacy Policy. Despite those best efforts, no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your Personal Data, we cannot guarantee its absolute security. You should take care to protect private information or information that is important to you. Chautauqua Institution and its licensors shall not be responsible for protecting any such information and are not liable for the protection of privacy of electronic mail or other information transferred through the Internet or any other network that you may use.
Limitation of Liability
In no event will Chautauqua Institution or its affiliates be responsible or liable to you or anyone else for, and you hereby knowingly and expressly waive all rights to seek, direct, indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages of any type, and any rights to have damages multiplied or otherwise increased, arising out of or in connection with the Services, the Site Content, or any product or service purchased through the Services, even if Chautauqua Institution has been advised of the possibility of such damages, and regardless of whether the claim is based upon any contract, tort, or other legal or equitable theory.
Without limiting the foregoing, you expressly acknowledge and agree that Chautauqua Institution will have no liability or responsibility for: (a) any unauthorized access to or use of our secure servers and/or any and all personal information and/or financial information stored therein, (b) any errors, mistakes, inaccuracies or omissions in any content, (c) any lost, stolen or damaged tickets, or the failure of a venue to honor a ticket, or (d) any expenses or losses incurred by you due to a change in the date, time, ticket price, ticket availability, ticketing amenities, location, or featured performers of an event.
Your sole and exclusive remedy for dissatisfaction is a refund of the face value of the tickets, associated parking and processing fees you have paid to Chautauqua Institution for the applicable event, if such refund is authorized in these Terms. The limitations in this section will apply even if any limited remedy fails of its essential purpose. The allocation of risk between us is an essential element of the basis of the bargain between us. Chautauqua Institution’s aggregate liability arising out of these terms or the use of the Services will not exceed the face value of the tickets, associated parking and processing fees you have paid to Chautauqua Institution for the applicable event. In no event will attorneys’ fees be awarded or recoverable. Chautauqua Institution’s liability will be limited under this section to the fullest extent permitted by applicable law. Should you make a claim against Chautauqua Institution contrary to these Terms, Chautauqua Institution, as a prevailing party, shall be entitled to recover its attorneys’ fees from you.
Waiver/Modification
Any waiver of any provision of these Terms must be in writing and must be signed by the party waiving its rights in order to be valid. A waiver of any provision hereunder shall not operate as a waiver of any other provision, or as a continuing waiver of the same provision in the future. If any court of competent jurisdiction finds any provision of these Terms to be void or unenforceable for any reason, then such provision shall be ineffective to the extent of the court’s finding without affecting the validity and enforceability of any remaining provisions. These Terms represent the entire understanding and agreement between the parties relating to the subject matter herein and supersede any and all prior statements, understandings or agreements whether oral or written, and shall not be modified except in writing, signed by you and Chautauqua Institution.
