Refund, Cancelation and Replacement Policies
Non-Authorized Ticket Purchases
Tickets to events at the Chautauqua Institution, including single tickets to events in the Chautauqua Amphitheater, must be purchased through the Chautauqua Institution Ticket Office, either in person, by phone or online at tickets.chq.org.
Scalpers and ticket brokers are not recognized ticketing agents of Chautauqua Institution. If you purchase from a non-authorized person or ticket broker, you risk purchasing an invalid, lost or stolen ticket that is not valid for admittance into Chautauqua Institution for the event in question. Chautauqua Institution employs scanning technology for admittance to events.
Only valid tickets will scan to authorize entry into the Amphitheater for an event. Invalid, lost or stolen tickets will be deactivated and thus will not be valid for entry into the Amphitheater for the event in question. Anyone who purchases tickets from a scalper or ticket broker does so at their own risk. We urge everyone to purchase tickets at the Chautauqua Institution Ticket Office or at authorized vendors.

Ticket Refund Policies
Gate Pass Refund Policy
Long-term tickets (gate passes that span 24 hours or more) will be refunded to the original form of payment until the start of the Summer Assembly season. Requests for consideration of special circumstances made after will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
Single Ticket Refund Policy
Single-event tickets to lectures, opera, theater, concerts, and other events are not refundable. In the event that performances or lectures are cancelled, full refunds will be issued for the ticket price, processing fees and any parking purchased in association with the single ticket order.
Day Tickets
Day tickets, excluding Event Tickets, may be exchanged for another pass of equal or greater value as long as the change is made prior to the ticket start date. No changes can be made to expired passes. The High Capacity Amphitheater Event Policy applies to all requests for day/partial day ticket purchases and changes. This policy places restrictions on the purchase of Day Tickets on days when an event on the schedule is likely to reach a high capacity.
Tickets and registration fees collected by or on behalf of a third party are subject to the third-party refund policy.
Athenaeum Hotel Cancellation Policies
Deposit
All reservations are confirmed with a deposit that is placed toward the total stay balance. Reservations of three or more nights require a $500 deposit; overnight and two-night reservations require the first night’s stay to be paid, and promotional packages must be paid in full at time of booking. Reservations are not guaranteed until a deposit or payment is made.
Cancellation Policy
Most reservations may be canceled within 14 business days of booking for a full refund. After the 14-day hold, the deposit becomes non-refundable but is transferable to a different date. Guests wishing to remove nights from reservation must do so 30 days prior to the date of check in to avoid a $100-per-night cancellation fee. All reservations associated with promotional and/ or discounted packages are subject to a cancellation fee equal to the full value of the stay and do not receive the 14-day hold. Travel insurance is recommended.
Early Departure Fee
A fee equal to the remainder of the stay will be applied to the reservation upon early departure.

- Single opera and theater tickets: $2 per ticket
- Single tickets (i.e. day, evening) are non-refundable and non-replaceable.
