Check The Chautauquan Daily for reminders
Music is such a big part of Chautauqua. Here audience members have many ways of immersing ourselves in orchestral music. We get pre-concert lectures and program notes in the Daily from renowned musicologist Dr. David Levy. Conductor, Rossen Milanov, often holds a post-concert Q & A with guest artists, and musicians. Visitors are welcome to stop by rehearsals in the Amp to get previews of the night’s concert.
We in the CSOL also want to get to know the people who make the music in the orchestra. Consequently, we have partnered with the Athenaeum Hotel to provide after-concert receptions where musicians and supporters can meet and mingle. We also have an annual family picnic lunch traditionally at Elizabeth S. Lenna Hall followed by an open rehearsal that CSOL members can observe.
Having personal relationships with people on stage brings a greater empathy for the amount of work it takes to prepare a concert. You can share your passion for particular composers and their works and gain personal insight. This is an unusual opportunity for the average audience of professional musicians.
To join, please send your check payable to Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra League for $30 Family or $15 individual at the Friends level. Or increase your support to the Maestro level for $100 Family or $75 for individual to P.O. Box 751, Chautauqua, NY 14722. If you wish to make a more significant tax-deductible donation please contact Suzanne Shull, CSOL President at 404-281-0790.
We also have opportunities for volunteers who wish to give a few hours during the summer season. And we have a board of directors for people who enjoy going the extra mile.
