“Unbecoming: New Works by Yael Braha Created in Shigaraki, Japan” Exhibition – July 20–August 19

“Unbecoming: New Works by Yael Braha Created in Shigaraki, Japan” exhibition runs July 20–August 19. Yael Braha designs objects with bold and stylized surface patterns, which feature optical and geometrical illusions by integrating innovative digital fabrication with traditional ceramic processes. The creative intention is to challenge and expand viewer’s perceptual assumptions when experiencing a minimalist yet complex functional design object. The way that patterns are framed within a form, where they are cut, assembled, and overlapped, alludes to the process of film editing, assembling separate but related parts to create a sequence that is larger than the sum of their parts. All work shown has been created during her residency in Shigaraki Japan. This exhibition is generously sponsored by Friends of CVA. Curated by Judy Barie.

“Intersections & Diversions” Exhibition – July 23–August 20

These works interrogate the ways in which humans use the grid to build, organize, and connect. Using a range of both rigid and pliable materials, they suggest growth and imply the metaphorical repeating of patterns. A softness balances the collective gridwork structures through curves, glitches, and loose threads. From circuit boards to city streets, we can find connections between acts of mapping, protecting, and testing boundaries. Curated by Erika Diamond.
